APPRENTICESHIP : Toolmaker/Electrical Engineer.
FURTHER EDUCATION :
1965 – 67 : Chelmsford Tech College.
– First became interested in making studio pottery with Joanna Constantinidis at Chelmsford College.
1967 : Pre-Dip in Art at Southend School of Art.
1969-70 : Ray Conney Productions – Westcliff Palace Theatre – Scenery Designer/Painter
1970 – 73 : Dip. AD in Ceramics at Newcastle Polytechnic.
1980-1 : Certificate Education. at Leeds University.
LECTURING :
1974 – onwards : Visiting Lecturer at various Colleges and Universities.
SELECTED WORKSHOPS :
2008, 2009 and 2010 , Pottery and Art workshops with Helix Arts.
2010-12 : Porcelain Project – working with the Oriental Museum in Durham University .
2015-17 Hey Clay, a Crafts Council event held in my studio.
STUDIOS :
1974 : Set up my first pottery studio at Beamish Hall, Co.Durham.
1980 : Set up my 2nd pottery studio, in Cails Yard, Haymarket, Newcastle upon Tyne
1983-88 : Set up my 3rd studio and supervised the MSC project for the Architectural Ceramics Program for the construction/restoration of the Westgate Rd. Arts Centre in Newcastle; and also conducted and supervised all the archaeological excavations carried out during the rebuilding program at the Arts Centre.
1988 – 2018 : Running my independent studio at Newcastle Arts Centre.
2018 – Set up a new studio in North Tyneside.. see contact page for details.
AWARDS :
1978, 79 & 1981 : Northern Arts production awards.
1987 : BBC Design Awards, selected for the floor tile designs produced at Newcastle Arts Centre (pictures)
1989 : Newcastle City Council – production/development award.
1999 & 2000 : Grainger Town Project, Newcastle.
1999 : Cultural Business Venture Award – Northern Arts.
2011 : Craft & Design magazine – Silver Award for ceramics.

1994 : Presentation piece to HRH The Princess Royal (Picture)
1996 : Presentation piece made for the Government of Kyonggi Province, Korea, the Piece now on display in the Samsung Museum of Ceramics, Korea. – see the BBC film
1997 : Malmaison Hotel Group – large serving platters.
1998-2000 : Architectural features for the reconstruction of Roman buildings in Tyne &Wear.
2000 : Presentation piece to the Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown .
2003 : Presentation piece for Northumbria Police.
2004 : Piece purchased by Lord and Lady Inglewood for their collection at Hutton in the Forest (picture) (Facebook)
2005 : Presentation piece for the ‘North East Large Company Award’ (picture)
2007 : Educational Tile panels for the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle.
2011 : A presentation piece for the Prague Fringe Award
